#VINTAGECARSCITY

Europe's largest vintage cars collection in Einbeck!

1,200 historic motorbikes, 630 automobiles, small and mini vehicles, 200 trucks and buses, a collection of electric vehicles and another one with Lanz-Bulldogs. You will find this large amount of mobility in Einbeck – in the PS.SPEICHER and its collections. On five different sites in our city you may discover more than 2,500 vintage cars on an exhibition area of altogether 22,000 m². It is the largest open-to-the-public vintage cars collection of this kind in Europe!

The PS.SPEICHER was once a large granary that was elaborately restored according to monument preservation and with modern additions. The exciting experience exhibition on history, present and future of mobility moved into its premises in 2014. The interactive main exhibition in the former granary takes visitors on a time travel through 200 years of the history of mobility and leads them through all periods and stages of development. You start your tour on the top level and move step-by-step from one period to the next – until you reach the future of mobility on the ground floor.

Changing special exhibitions always offer new dynamics. At interactive photo stations and attractions for young and old you can experience the history of the automobile first hand. For example, you may test your driving skills in the Porsche race simulator or you can have a laid-back drive in a Hanomag through the Golden 1920s.

History of Einbeck's granary

1897: Einbeck’s granary is built as a six-storey storehouse made of brick with wooden internal design. 1914: The KORNHAUS eGmbH buys the company of the state and builds a four-storey building annex with similar storage capacity. 1933: The annex collapses and is rebuilt with reinforcement. 1978: Both granaries are put under preservation order. Until 2000: The operation of the granary is maintained. In the following years the granary changes owner several times and lies fallow.

Kulturstiftung Kornhaus is founded

Karl-Heinz Rehkopf, businessman from Einbeck, buys the granary and together with his wife and further collaborators they found the non-profit foundation Kulturstiftung Kornhaus.

Main aim of the foundation: Promotion of culture by preserving Rehkopf’s collection of historic vehicles. At the time of the foundation he owns approximately 1,700 vintage cars. The collection should be preserved as cultural heritage, kept and permanently made available to the public.

Further aims: Documentation and research on the history of motorisation as well as preserving historic protected documents.

Between 2012 and 2014, the historic granary is restored according to monument preservation standards and altered for its new use as exhibition building for the PS.SPEICHER.
