The Grubenhagen Castle Ruins In the early 13th century, it was owned by the powerful Counts of Dassel. It takes its name from the castle governors, the noblemen of Grube. At the end of the 13th century, it came under Welf ownership. It survived a siege in 1449 by the Landgrave of Hesse without major damage. After the official residence was relocated to Rotenkirchen in the 16th century, the castle began to decay. The restored tower is well preserved. Nothing remains of the other buildings of the formerly heavily fortified castle.
