Route information:

The Borntal valley was particularly known in Einbeck as a fruit valley, as its sheltered southern exposure provided ideal growing conditions for fruit trees. Furthermore, the Borntal valley was used by the people of Einbeck as a pasture and grazing land for sheep and cows. Today, agriculture plays only a minor role in the Borntal valley. Although a large part of the valley is still used as grassland, and a few fruit trees still exist, the old farm in the valley to the left of the path has long since fallen into disrepair.

Above the Borntal valley you have a beautiful view over the valley and the old town of Einbeck, from the middle of which the tall market church and the somewhat more squat cathedral church rise.

Of the approximately 1500 hectares of wooded hills surrounding the Hube, approximately 600 hectares are owned by the city of Einbeck. The city's forestry department operates a forestry operation on this area, which is intended not only for timber production but also for nature conservation and, in particular, for local recreation. The forestry department views these functions as equally important and attempts to balance the expenditures with the income from timber production.

The forest is managed by the city's forestry department in a natural forest management system. The forest is now primarily cultivated through natural regeneration and, where appropriate, site-appropriate additional planting. Conifers such as spruce and pine are not part of the natural forest community here and are only occasionally planted for aesthetic reasons and for decorative foliage. Remaining spruce and pine stands are being converted to deciduous stands.

At the edge of Weidenfeld, you can clearly see individual phases of development in the city. In the background, you can see the old town with its two churches, and to your left, the multi-story apartment blocks from the 60s, through which the avenue trees of Teichenweg stretch like a green ribbon all the way to the city center.
