The medieval mortuary tower is clearly visible from the street "Auf dem Steinwege".
The so-called Tower of the Dead in the Minster Church of St. Alexandri In the Middle Ages, it belonged to northern city fortifications. The Name Totenturm comes from »Tottmühle«The mill may have existed since the founding of the monastery of St. Alexandri – perhaps even earlier.
The Area near the Death Tower At that time, it belonged to the monastery district of the Münster Church. Since the monastery was founded in 11. century until the year 1837 a legally extensive independent "foundation freedom".
The Area north of the line Haspel, Stiftplatz and Kurze Münsterstraße were exempt from the Einbeck police power in times long past and subordinate to the church.

Arrival & Parking

On foot:
Coming from the market square, walk straight along Münsterstraße to Stiftplatz. Here, pass the church on the left, walk past the parking lots, and see the Totenturm (Tomb Tower) on your right, between the residential buildings.

By Car:
Those arriving by car can take one of the B3 exits into the city, and the tower is a 10-minute drive away. Parking is available in front of the church.

By public transport:
Visitors can reach the Einbeck-Mitte train station by train. From there, it's about a 10-minute walk (850 m) to the tower.
