News from archaeological excavations: 2022/2023
Until now, it was assumed that the settlement mentioned in 1203 was located 600 to 800 meters northeast of the present-day estate, but an archaeological excavation has now located medieval Rotenkirchen immediately northwest of the estate buildings. In addition to a fieldstone well, post holes were also discovered, which can be interpreted as the remains of buildings. Finds from numerous settlement pits date, primarily through ceramic finds, from the late 11th and early 12th centuries to the 14th/15th centuries, even several decades before the construction of the Grubenhagen castle complex.
