Old Synagogue

Short facts

  • Einbeck

Here people from different cultures, religions and generations meet up for exchange opportunities.

The foundation Förderverein Alte Synagoge in Einbeck has carefully restored this building, dated around 1800, that had been used as a private residence for a long time, in accordance with conservation guidelines, and returned it to its original condition

"We create a venue for interaction and open dialogue" - this is the motto for the use of the Old Synagogue in Baustraße 15a.
The recovered venue with its gallery offers space for approx. 90 people and is available for events of different types. The Old Synagogue in Einbeck is a centre of encounter for discussions, assemblies, presentations, readings, concerts and other public events that bring together people from different cultures, religions and generations for an open dialogue. It should be available for a wide audience and strengthen the neighbourhood in the South of the old town, give impulses and contribute to the neighbourhood development. The Old Synagogue is - apart from the cemetery in the street Rabbethgestraße - the only still-existing testimony of Jewish life in Einbeck. It is the only synagogue building in the district of Northeim that is still found at its original location.
