The Chapel of St. Bartholomew is the Memorial of FW Sertürner, the discoverer of morphine.
Many people know the Chapel of St. Bartholomew as Burial place of Friedrich Wilhelm Sertürner. Today, a stone in the chapel commemorates this. However, few people know that St. Bartholomew Part of a former leper and poorhouse was.

In the chapel today sometimes Devotions, (art) exhibitions or theater performances instead.

The Chapel of St. Bartholomew consists of two parts:
  • The actual chapel was built in the first half of the 15th century. The half-timbered section was added in 1510. The year 1510 can still be seen above the entrance door.
  • In order to transform the St. Bartholomew's Chapel into a Sertürner memorial, plans for its redesign were developed as early as 1934. The extension on the north side, which housed the family burial plot of the Einbeck Wernher family, was previously only accessible from the outside and had no access to the chapel.
