Philosophy:
The Backpackers INN music bar was founded in 2013 and has since hosted many diverse concerts in Einbeck and participated in various events with cultural partners in the region. The Backpackers INN is established in the national and international cultural scene and has built an excellent reputation over the past seven years. Our venues are a testing ground, a breeding ground, a launching pad, a source of everyday culture, an opportunity, and a great enrichment for Einbeck, the surrounding area, and all of southern Lower Saxony.
We see ourselves as an institution dedicated to developing new cultural ideas and utopias for a small-town setting. Our projects provide artistic inspiration for the city, addressing our own history or issues of integration, media, pop or punk, interculturalism and inclusion, ecology or economics.
As a young club with young staff, we at the Backpackers INN want to put together a fresh, young, and varied program for Einbeck and the southern Lower Saxony region – with a mix of grassroots and established bands.
Subculture is particularly important to us. Musicians with fresh ideas and new concepts for club performances are therefore very welcome. In addition to performances by national artists and bands, we also welcome international musicians from Austria, Switzerland, England, and the USA.
For a small town like Einbeck, we see great added value in intergenerational exchange and collaboration. Culture in general, and music in particular, can serve as a unifying element here; it brings people together. Music is something very creative, and creativity is both feminine and masculine. Both sides are very strong and very different – you can hear this diversity in our music.
We don't limit ourselves to one musical genre; instead, we want to make music accessible across cultures, bringing together the rich musical diversity—including that of immigrants and locals in Einbeck and the surrounding region. The most common genres at our concerts are singer/songwriter, rock, alternative rock, and indie. We also occasionally feature pop, electropop, metal, and punk.
We believe that music creates an emotional connection, playing a central role in nonverbal communication and conveying the joy of exchange and dialogue between different cultures. Furthermore, gender equality, LGBTQ+, and the imagination are more important to us than mass appeal. Women are underrepresented on stage, especially in the music industry. We seek out and support the most innovative ideas.
Einbeck has had a vibrant music scene for many years. It has been home to the Mendelsohn Music School for classical music for 40 years, the Sommerfeld Music School for 30 years, and the M15 Music School for pop music for 1 years. With creative musicians from across Germany performing on our stage, concertgoers are not only given the opportunity to develop their own ideas, but also to further develop existing ones, test new ideas for their audience appeal, and creatively fill stages around the world. Over the past 10 years, not only have many bands emerged in Einbeck, but the community surrounding these bands has also grown significantly. We also see it as our mission and strength to bring the cultural sector as a whole together and network it.
